Birdhers was established in May 2018, while Han was studying ornithology, racial equity and feminist pedagogy. At first thinking these fields were disparate but realizing that any organization created in a racist, misogynistic society would be inherently so. These subjects were consciously interwoven in an attempt to subvert the status quo, a predominately white male centered one. Birdhers continues to evolve while maintaining a focus on community building and sharing a love and respect for nature.

Marti Clemmons (they/them) - Co-Host joined Birdhers in 2022. Their interest in observing birds began in Brooklyn, NY when a pair of Northern Cardinals would visit their windowsill daily. Having been a solo birder for many years, joining Birdhers has brought a new sense of community and joy into their life.
