BIRDHERS

is a bird watching club for womin, Trans and non-binary people to build community by

walking together,
     being present in nature,

observing the flora and fauna,
           sharing knowledge and curiosity
about the world around us.

Through the lens of bird watching, we strive to create a safe, accessible space in nature for people outside of the white cis-hetero patriarchy that has historically dominated this practice.

ETHICS

Comfort of birds comes first
Ask questions!
Non-heirarchal knowledge sharing
Nature Stewardship
No species elitism
Promote relationships with public

Above all else, Birdhers champions inclusivity, curiosity, and respect. Any form of bigotry, racism, or misogyny will not be tolerated.

Birdhers is based in Portland, Oregon. Stolen land of the Multnomah, Kalapuya, Clackamas, Kathlamet, Wasco, Cowlitz, Chinook, Molalla, Tualatin and many more tribes. We give this acknowledgment out of respect for the indigenous people that spoke names to birds for millennia.

Serving as an outdoor club and a community building tool, Birdhers is skewed for beginners, all experience levels and ages encouraged. Anti-hierarchal knowledge sharing is employed. A club with no membership and fluctuating attendance, every week is different!

Extra binoculars available. Free, no RSVP

WEEKLY

Birdhers walks are meditative and slow-paced, usually ranging 1~2 miles on paved and dirt paths in inner Portland, OR. Allow 2~3  hours. Don’t rush, although it’s ideal to start and stay together, you can catch up to the group or leave whenever you need to. Our routes and pace are modified to fit the needs of the group and accessibility is prioritized. Please feel free to email with any questions or accommodation needs to birdhers@gmail.com
